Sexting

Torbay students are helping parents in Devon understand sexting. It's a mixtue of the word 'sex' and 'texting' and the term means when people use the internet to share indecent images of children.

The difficult subject can often be avoided by parents because they do not understand the subject.

Not only can it be a risky activity among adults, but for anyone under the age of 18 it is also illegal.

It is a criminal offence to: take an indecent image of someone under 18 - including one of yourself. to ask someone under the age of 18 for such an image to distribute, possess and publish such an image.

Some online slang terms we need to look out for:

  • P.O.S    Parent Over Shoulder
  • K.P.C    Keeping Parents Clueless
  • RU18    Are You Over 18
  • W.Y.B   Watch Your Back
  • STXT    Sexy Text
  • GNOC   Get Naked On Cam
  • CULKN  Home Alone

The Torbay based project has been delivered by Devon and Cornwall police, Torbay Council and the Hele's Angels.
