More Than 800 Jobs For South Wales

More than 620 IT jobs have been created in south Wales.

Canadian firm CGI - which already has 3 sites in Bridgend - is looking to branch out.

The company employs 900 people in the town and will start looking for new workers immediately.

Tim Gregory is President of its UK operations and told Heart there's lots of different opportunites:

"The new jobs are a combination of network engineers, application developers, sercurity consultants, system architects, so a whole range"

"40% of the 620 jobs will be for new entrants. We're very committed to helping them into the IT industry.”

Meanwhile, a new car parts factory in Merthyr’s revealed it’s taken on 220 staff.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart officially openend the new Tenneco Walker site and said getting people into work is just the start:

“These companies are very good when looking at supply chains as well. When you think of manufacturing you think of machinery, but you must also remember what they do in terms of where they shop, where they get catering from, what they do in a much wider spectrum”

“That’s good news for the local economy.”

The companies have had help and investment from the Welsh Government.
