Bike Some Noise for Heart Hertfordshire

Meet Kathryn and Kylie, our local champions who'll be taking part in Bike Some Noise on Thursday 9th October.

As part of Global's Make Some Noise, people from around our network of radio stations will be cycling from Lands End to John O Groats on 'static' cycles to help raise money for disadvantaged children and young people across the UK and here in the Hertfordshire.

We asked Kathryn a couple of questions:

  •  Which charity are you representing and how did you come to be involved with them?

I am representing Herts Young Homeless, a charity I have worked for for 16 years. I became involved with them when the charity first began so have watched it grow over the years.

  • Why does your chosen charity deserve listeners support?

We help children and young people who may be facing homelessness and can prevent them from having to sleep on the streets.  We help families to re-unite when conflict has broken them, and help build them back together again.  We help our young people regain their confidence and self-esteem and give them a purpose by encouraging them to volunteer for our organisation once they are settled.

  •  How far do you think you’ll  get on the Bike (Some Noise?)

I hope to ride at least 40 miles

  • What are you most looking forward to about the Global’s Make Some Noise Day?

Helping my charity to raise their profile and fundraise for much needed services. Also that I may spot a celebrity lol

And we asked Kylie the same questions:

  • -Which heart presenter (s) do you most love and why?

JK and Lucy – they are funny, engaging and extremely entertaining!

  •  Which charity are you representing and how did you come to be involved with them?

Herts young homeless – I started over a year ago now by chance after coming from a retail management background. I suppose I wanted to do something that helped young people get the support they needed to help themselves build a brighter future. We all need a stable home so this helps build the foundations (so to speak). All the hyh teams have a wealth of knowledge so you know that the young people are getting the best support possible, and that’s a great feeling knowing your part of that.

  • Why does your chosen charity deserve listeners support?

Every day there are street homeless people or people in need of support with housing across the whole country. We may be a localised charity but we have a big voice and I’m sure the young people we support through the different services we offer would agree that herts young homeless puts their service users at the heart of what they do.

  •  How far do you think you’ll  get on the Bike (Some Noise?)

I’m hoping to get to twenty miles (this could either prove how fit or unfit I am really) but if I can go for a as long as possible as I aim to make as much noise as I can!

  • What are you most looking forward to about the Global’s Make Some Noise Day?

Meeting some amazing people and getting to be part of an event that is very unique in terms of other conventional events that are used for fundraising and profile raising. It should be a great day!
