Bank Card Fraud In St Albans

18 May 2012, 15:10

Police are releasing CCTV images of two people they would like to speak to in connection with fraud offences in St Albans.

There have been a number of incident reported recently where victims have received a phone call from someone claiming to be from their bank. They have been informed a fraudulent transaction had taken place on their debit card and a courier would come and collect the cards. The offender has then managed to get the victim’s PIN either by asking for it or asking the victim to type it in on their phone keypad.

The offender has then visited the victims’ homes and taken the cards and subsequently withdrawn money at a cashpoint.

DC Rebecca Primrose, who is investigating, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who believes they recognise the man seen in the CCTV using the cash point and the lady seen near him or anyone who believes they may have been a victim to a similar crime.

“I believe they were using a silver vehicle which is also pictured.

“I would also like to remind members of the public to never reveal their PIN codes to anyone – including to people claiming to work for their bank.

“Banks will never ask for this information and residents who believe they have been targeted should report the matter to police.”
