The Royal British Legion are having an awards ceremony for Hertfordshire Cadets after they raised a record breaking £60,000 during last years poppy appeal
Army Cadet J Barrett, from Company Watford Detachment, alone raised nearly £3,000.
The Cadets achievement has been recognised by MP Richard Harrington who will be going along to tonight’s ceremony.
The Harrison family, whose son Chris was killed in Afghanistan in 2010, have also been invited. Martin Harrison will be giving a speech about the help he and his wife received from the Legion.
Martin told Heart:
"They provided us with a lawyer and he was very good he actually turned loose questions off the top of our head into questions that got us the answers we wanted and it gave us a form of closure about our sons death"
He said the legion also helped by putting them in touch with the Sawyer family whose son Tom also died in Afghanistan.
Benches have since been put up in Watford in memory of the two men.
Natasha Robertson from the Royal British Legion says the money Hertfordshire Cadets raised will be a big help:
"I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the cadets who collected last November during the poppy appeal they really have made a huge difference"
