Herts Offer More Free Childcare Hours

A new trial has started in Hertfordshire - to provide 30 hours of free childcare - one of the first areas of England to offer that level of support.

It's to support parents so they can balance work with their family lives.
The trial scheme will be delivering 415 free childcare places as part of the 30 hours free childcare trial, in four small areas of the county. 104 schools, nurseries, preschools and early years providers are taking part, playing a crucial role in giving every child the best start in life.
All three and four year olds are already entitled to 15 hours of free childcare a week, and this is also extended to the most disadvantaged two-year-olds. This scheme will deliver an additional 15 free hours to working parents of three and four year olds.
Richard Roberts, Cabinet Member for Children's Services, said: "We were delighted to have been chosen to trial this scheme before it is rolled out across the country next year. We are supporting parents to access their entitlement to 30 hours of free childcare in whatever way best suits their needs and we are building upon the fantastic partnership working which already exists between our maintained nursery schools and our other early years providers.

There are still limited places available for the 30 hours free childcare scheme for eligible parents living within two miles of the four trial areas. To find out if you are eligible to apply, please visit: www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/parents
