More Foster Carers Needed In Herts
Hertfordshire County Council has been telling Heart they need more people to take the plunge and become foster carers.
There are currently 440 fosters carers across the county, and last year they recruited 60 new carers but they say they need more to sign up to meet with the increasing demand.
Head of Fostering for Hertfordshire County Council Lynn Costello said: “Our foster carers are extremely dedicated and provide high quality care to our children and young people.
"We particularly need carers who can care for sibling groups and for those who can provide care for older children and teenagers. We also need carers across the county who have lots of experience working with children and young people and may be able to join our scheme for children and young people who require more specialist support."
Jane Pitman, Executive Member for Children’s Services, said: “Foster carers have the opportunity to improve children’s futures. Please think about whether you have the qualities needed to be a foster carer – patience, kindness and a good sense of humour. Our foster carers make such a difference to the lives of many children.”
As a foster carer, you will have a dedicated social worker, receive full training and support and an allowance of up to £400 per child per week. If you have one or more spare bedrooms in your home and think you may have some of the skills needed to be a foster carer, we want to hear from you.
Two open evenings are taking place in June to give those who are thinking about fostering the chance to find out from foster carers and staff what it’s like to foster in Hertfordshire. The drop-in evening sessions will take place on:
Wednesday June 8, 6.30pm-8.30pm at the Ramada Cromwell Hotel, High Street, Stevenage, SG1 3AZ
Wednesday June 22, 6.30pm-8.30pm at the Ramada Hotel, Hemel Hempstead Road, Redbourn, AL3 7AF
If you, or someone you know, would like to come along or you want to find out more about fostering, please get in touch with the recruitment team on 0800 917 0925. Alternatively, please visit www.hertsdirect.org/fostering
