Detective Inspector Jerome Kent from the joint Major Crime Unit said: “Whilst incidents of this nature are not of a regular occurrence in Hertfordshire, this was an extremely serious offence. The victim was seriously injured and is lucky to be alive.
“I would like to thank all those witnesses who assisted our investigation and helped bring the offenders to justice.
“Despite searches at the time and numerous lines of inquiry, the gun, which is believed to have been a shotgun, has never been found. I would like to appeal to anyone who knows the location of the gun to contact police or Crimestoppers.”
