A teenage girl's been sentenced for stealing poppy appeal charity boxes.

Elisha Lindsay from Waterhouse Street in Hemel Hempstead has been sentenced for admitting stealing the British Legion charity boxes from 5 different locations in Borehamwood.

Those places were:

- Ibis Hotel, Elstree Way on November 6
- Gala Bingo, Shenley Road, November 9
- The Venue Entertainments Centre, Elstree Way, November 10
- Affinity Sutton, Imperial place between November 1st and November 10th
- Michael Yeo estate agents (air ambulance charity box) in Shenley Road on November 15th.

The 19-year-old also admitted assaulting two police officers at Hatfield Remand Court.

In total she was jailed for 28 weeks, getting 12 weeks for the assault and six weeks for the charity theft. She also got 16 weeks for a suspended sentence for a previous assault.

Chief Inspector Dean Patient said: "To steal from any charity is truly despicable but to target the Royal British Legion in this way and at a time of remembrance is poignant.

"I am pleased that Elisha Lindsay has been given a prison term for her crime.

"This was excellent work by the Borehamwood Safer Neighbourhood and Local Crime Teams, who quickly identified Lindsay.  I hope this serves as a warning to others who believe they can get away with such crimes that we will ensure they are brought to justice."

Two men have also been charged in connection with the investigation.

19-yea-old Shane Keane, from Northgate Path in Borehamwood and Michael Keane, aged 49 and from Charter Place in Watford, have been bailed and are due to appear before St Albans Magistrates on November 29th.
