Teens Seen Setting Fire To Croxley Green Crop
Arsonists have caused around £10,000 of damage after setting fire to a wheat field at Croxley Green near Watford.
Six fire engines and 35 firefighters were sent to tackle the field fire in Rousebarn Lane just after 3.30pm on Sunday.
Witnesses saw two boys, believed to be 12-14 years old, setting fire to the wheat.
Fire crews prevented the blaze from spreading to Newlands Spring Woods.
Inspector Iain Jenkins said:
"This was a large scale fire which required a number fire and police resources. It has caused significant loss to the farmer but I am grateful to the quick thinking witness who called police as their actions have prevented the fire being even more significant.
We believe this to be a deliberate act and would urge anyone else who was in the area and saw the two youths described to please contact officers."
