Travel Disruption In Maple Cross

16 February 2015, 13:25

Maple Cross is facing disruption for the next five weeks as gas pipes are upgraded in Denham Way.

The upgrade will help secure safe and reliable gas supplies for years to come and is scheduled to take around five weeks to complete. Engineers will replace the existing metal gas pipes which have been in service for many decades, with modern hardwearing plastic.

Work is taking place in two stages to minimise any problems.

Stage One will take one week to complete. To reduce congestion, the traffic lights at the junction of Chalfont Lane will be replaced with manually operated temporary traffic lights. During peak times priority will be given to motorists heading to Slough.

Stage Two will involve work in the side road opposite Denham Way and will take around four weeks to finish.

National Grid authorising engineer Dilbir Chana said: "This is essential work and will ensure that people in Maple Cross continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies for many years to come. We will do everything we can to complete the project as quickly as possible and to keep any disruption to a minimum. ‘We planned the work during the schools’ half-term week when traffic is likely to be less busy. However, we would advise motorists to leave some extra time for their journeys during the first week of our work."

As part of the work, it may be necessary to replace some of the service pipes that connect individual homes and business to the gas main. National Grid will contact the occupiers of all properties that are affected to explain when this will take place and what is going to happen.
