Watford Man Jailed Over Tax Fraud
A man from Watford's been jailed for 5 years over a £1.3m tax scam.
51 year-old Paresh Vyas, from Observer Drive, was one of three men sent to prison over the fraud.
The men shipped second-hand luxury cars to Malaysia so they could claim the tax back.
The cars included Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Porsches worth up to £200,000 each.
They managed to fraudulently claim £20,000 in VAT on just one Ferrari.
In total, the three men have been sentenced to 14 and a half years in jail.
Paul Barton, Assistant Director, Criminal Investigation, HMRC said "This was a blatant attack on the tax system. Their only aim was to line their pockets at the expense of the taxpayer.
"These three took away more than a million pounds from vital public services through this fraud and we will aim to recoup the proceeds of their crime. Tax crime does not pay."
