With the football and rugby seasons about to begin in August, Watford Borough Council are reminding both residents and visitors to the town about the match day parking regulations and also highlighting a new range of match day signs that will be in place for the start of the new season.
The council has written to 5000 households in the west Watford area, letting them know on which days Watford FC and Saracens RFC will be playing their matches in the 2010/2011 season. The information is also publicised in 11 local shops, the council’s website, the Parking Shop in Market Street and via the Freephone match day advice telephone number (0800 012 1753).
Watford Borough Council Parking Service Manager, Linda Baker said: “Due to new national standards for match day parking scheme signage, the parking service have undertaken a review and designed a more modern system which has been approved by the Department of Transport.
“The old blue match date signs located on the major routes into Watford will be replaced by 80 new Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) entry signs, located at every entry point into a CPZ. Each of these new signs will contain a plate at the bottom which will give the date of the next two matches to be enforced and will cover match day zones M and N, together with all the existing CPZ’s that also receive match day enforcement.”
In addition to the new signage, all repeater signs within all zones affected by match day enforcement are to be replaced with larger versions that also include the scheme hours.
Linda continued: “Residents should be aware however that the council and clubs have no control over the fixtures, which are subject to change. These are made by Sky Sports who own the television rights.”
