More about Daniel
Daniel Fox was born and raised in Suffolk. We grilled Daniel to find out a bit more about him...
Daniel David Fox
Where did you go to school?
What was your first car?
The most common one is Danno. Otherwise it’s Foxy.
Do you have any hobbies?
I like spending time outdoors, with my four boys. So football, the park, walking or something equally as ‘outside’. I also have a strange penchant for Garden Centres, and am a keen yet quite amateur gardener.
Who was your first crush?
If you had a superpower, what would it be?
To be able to live the same day over again.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
A tent, the Mourne Mountains in Ireland, and the family all there.
Which living person do you most admire and why?
John Nettles. Do you realise that in 4,392 episodes of Midsomer Murders, he’s never EVER failed to ‘crack the mystery’. That’s some hit rate, eh?
What vehicles do you own?
At the moment a racy little Fiesta for the weekends and an old banger for putting all my work miles on.
What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
I find it very hard to make eye contact during conversations!! It makes me look shifty, but I find it much easier to think when I look at the ground. Weird, I KNOW! Fortunately, eye contact’s not a problem when you’re on the radio!
What is the trait you most deplore in others?
People who go ‘around the houses’ before administering bad news. I much prefer people to ‘shoot from the hip’.
Where would you like to live?
I absolutely love where I live, and wouldn’t change it for the world. If I was after a holiday home, it’d be somewhere in rural Ireland (love the country, the people, the drink and the rain!) or somewhere by the sea.
What is your greatest regret?
Not asking out Julia Godfrey at primary school back in 1992.
What do you most dislike about your appearance?
The fact my hair’s starting to thin. My hair used to be so thick that I had it cut every three weeks. Now… well I don’t like to talk about it!
What is your favourite smell?
Baby talcum powder.
What is your favourite book?
I don’t read a lot of fiction, so most of my collection comprises of biographies and travel writing. Tony Hawks ‘One Hit Wonder’ is well worth a read… very amusing tale from an even more amusing man.
What or who is the greatest love of your life?
All of my children without doubt. I should probably also mention ‘her at home’.
Have you ever said ‘I love you’ and not meant it?
Only once – and I said it by complete accident. I meant to say something along the lines of ‘I’m having a great time’ or ‘thanks for a brilliant day’ and my stupid brain told my mouth to use the three words. And it was going so well….
Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
‘Bombdiggy’…’Bonza’… ‘Hi Man’ and ‘Word Up’.
What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
Another bedroom in our house!
How do you relax?
With great difficulty. I enjoy playing the piano, watching films and spending a bit of time in the garden.
Do you believe in life after death?
I don’t believe, but I really really hope.
How would you like to be remembered?
With a full head of hair.
What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
You never know when the music will stop.
Any places you love going?
I love Ireland, the Scottish Highlands, and the coast. I like to travel, and wish I had more time to do it!
Which restaurants, bars and pubs do you hang out in?
I’ve never, ever, ‘hung out’ anywhere!! I like good food, but without the ‘pretentious’ nonsense. I like what I like! I love live music, so anywhere with a bit of atmosphere and a good choice of beer.
Do you have any phobias?
Cold Baked Beans. I can’t touch them, and I certainly can’t eat them.
What about hidden talents?
At the age of 5, I could read music better than I could read English. I’m quite ‘handy’ on the piano.
What's the best piece of advice anyone's ever given you?
Bring your own headphones, some of the guy’s here don’t wash.
The best gig you’ve been to?
For musical ability, Elton John at the old Wembley Stadium. For entertainment value: Chas n Dave, Bournemouth Pier. It was brilliant!
The first record you ever bought?
Kylie Minogue – Tears on my Pillow.
Your favourite place to go on holiday?
Somewhere by the sea, where there’s plenty for us to all do. Much prefer to stay at home rather than go abroad.
