A 19 year old woman was also punched in the face during the dispute.

Officers were called to the scene and arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder, just minutes after the teen was seen getting into a nearby vehicle.

Detective Sergeant Phil Pullinger said: "Thankfully, the man's stab wounds are not life threatening and he remains in hospital in a stable condition where he is expected to make a full recovery. The woman injured in the disorder required stitches under her eye and has since been discharged.

"We would like to reassure people a suspect was swiftly arrested at the scene. He remains in police custody where he is currently helping us with our inquiries.

"We have spoken to some of the passengers on the bus and we will be examining CCTV footage, however we are keen to hear from any passengers or passers-by on the street - who may have witnessed the disorder but left before our arrival ? and I would urge them to call us."
