Elderly Woman Dies After Birmingham Hit And Run

An investigation's on after a woman was killed in a hit-and-run in Birmingham.

Mary Elizabeth Humpherson, also known as Betty by her friends, died after the collision between a car and a pedestrian in Birmingham Road, Great Barr, opposite the junction of Peak House Road just before midday on Friday 21 October.

The 88-year-old from Great Barr was taken to hospital with serious injuries but sadly died later that day.

Specialist officers are supporting her family who paid tribute. They said: “It is difficult to express our loss and how this has affected us all.

"Betty was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many in Great Barr. A kind hearted, sincere and caring lady who always put others first. We are devastated by this incident and would request that the family's privacy is respected at this difficult time “.

PC Alex Rippin from the force’s collision investigation unit, said: “The driver abandoned the car at the scene and ran off. Inquiries are on-going to trace him, but I would like him to do the right thing and contact investigating officers.

"I would also like to hear from anyone who has information to contact us by calling 101.
