Man Charged After Pensioner Is Seriously Injured In Sandwell Carjacking

A man's been charged with a carjacking in Sandwell that's left a 78-year-old with serious injuries.

Reginald Stocking was opening the gate to his Chapel Street home in West Bromwich last Sunday (May 10th) when a man jumped behind the wheel of his Peugeot 207.

He was hit by the car and shunted against a wall. He's still seriously ill in hospital.

Last night West Midlands Police detectives charged 34-year-old Andrew Jones from Dingle Street in Sandwell with wounding, robbery and burglary. The burglary charge is over a break-in at a home in Grosvenor Road, Tipton, just after the 9.20pm car-jacking.

Detective Sergeant David Hughes: “We recovered Mr Stocking’s blue Peugeot 207 from Walter Street in West Bromwich. Today officers will be at that location with a similar vehicle in the hope it may jog people’s memories and secure information about who dumped the car.

“And tonight (May 17) officers will also be handing out flyers in Chapel Street and talking to motorists and passers-by – hopefully we’ll speak to someone who witnessed the robbery or was in the area at the time and can provide useful information.”
