Man Found Stabbed At Birmingham Tram Stop

1 April 2017, 06:57

Detectives from British Transport Police are investigating a murder after a man died from stab wounds at Benson Road tram stop in Winson Green.

Police were called 4.50pm on Friday and found the man, thought to be in his fifties, collapsed at the tram stop having suffered serious stab wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

DCI Tony Fitzpatrick is leading the investigation in conjunction with officers from West Midlands Police.

He said: “We’re still trying to establish exactly how the man came to receive his injuries. At the moment, it is unclear whether the man was stabbed on the platform approach or sustained his injuries elsewhere.

“The incident occurred around rush hour and I’m certain they would have been people around who can help us find out exactly what happened.

“If you saw anything suspicious around the area, which is near the junction with Talbot Street, please contact us as a matter of urgency.”
