Neglect

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of neglect following the death of a two-year-old girl, police said today (Thursday 18th February).

The pair, a 47-year-old man and a woman aged 23 who have both been bailed pending further inquiries, were detained by police earlier this week following the death of a girl from the Harborne area of Birmingham.

West Midlands Police said the girl, who has not yet been named, died in hospital after going into cardiac arrest.

A police spokesman said a post-mortem examination had proved inconclusive and officers were now waiting for further tests to be carried out.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that it was called to a residential address in Harborne last Monday at 11.36am to reports of a child in cardiac arrest.

A spokesman for the service said: "Two ambulances and an incident support officer attended the scene. The child immediately received emergency treatment and was transferred by ambulance on blue lights to Birmingham Children's Hospital whilst emergency treatment continued."
