Teenager Arrested After 17-Year-Old Dies In Worcester Canal

A teenager who died after he was pulled from the canal in Worcester last night has been named as 17-year-old Sean Stevens.

A 17-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of his murder.

Sean was taken to hospital after being found near the Bilford Road Bridge, but died overnight.

Police are asking for anyone who saw a group of young people on the canal path to get in touch.

Superintendent Kevin Purcell said: "Our thoughts and sympathies are with Sean's family, who have asked for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time.

"A full and thorough investigation is being conducted into this incident and we are working to establish how Sean came to be in the canal.

"I would like to appeal to anyone who has any information about this incident to contact police. We are particularly interested in talking to anyone who saw a group of teenagers, or young adults, in and around the canal path from Worcester city centre up to Perdiswell last night, from 7pm onwards."

Members of the public with information are urged to call police on 101, quoting incident number 660s of 31 March.

If you want to give information but don't want to give your name you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or use their anonymous online form at www.crimestoppers.org.uk .
