Three Terror Arrests In Walsall

Three people from Walsall have been arrested on suspicion of Syria-related terrorism offences.

Two men, aged 21 and 27, and a 21-year-old woman were detained at their home addresses, West Midlands Police said.

The arrests were made by officers from West Midlands counter-terrorism unit, which said the operation was pre-planned and intelligence-led.

A police spokesman said: ``There was no immediate threat to public safety.

``Searches are now being carried out at eight associated addresses in the Walsall area and one in Moseley, Birmingham.''

Under terrorism legislation, officers have an initial 48 hours to question the suspects before charging, releasing or applying for a warrant for further detention.

All three are being held at a police station in the West Midlands.

One of the locations being searched is a terraced house in Bentley Lane, Walsall.

Neighbours were tight lipped about who lived at the address, while the blinds were down at the house itself.

Earlier, several uniformed and plain clothes officers went inside the home, some wearing latex gloves.

A spokesman for the police said they could not confirm whether the address was linked to its on-going counter terror investigation.

However, the spokesman added that it was ``not carrying out any other forensics searches in Walsall'' on Tuesday, ``other than in connection with this investigation''.
