West Midlands Domestic Abuse Survivor Calls For More Awareness Of Emotional Abuse

West Midlands Domestic Abuse Survivor Calls For Police To Be Trained To Spot The Signs Of Emotional Abuse.

A 28-year-old domestic abuse survivor who moved to the West Midlands to escape her former partner, has told Heart police officers need to be given better training to spot the signs of emotional abuse as well as physical violence.

Megan, who's name we've changed, says it took years for her to report the abuse she was suffering because she never thought of herself as a victim, even though it caused her to self harm.

Figures show on average a woman is assaulted 35 times before reporting it to the police.

It comes as new guidance has been issued advising officers get a checklist of what signs to look out for when it comes to tackling domestic violence.
