Woman Seriously Injured In Staffordshire Assault

A woman's been seriously injured in an attack in Burntwood in Staffordshire.

Police have told Heart: "at approximately 10pm last night (Wednesday July 20) Staffordshire Police was informed of an incident in the Burntwood area which involved a female being assaulted."

A 53-year-old woman from the Burntwood was found lying unconscious on the pavement outside St John's Church on High Street, Chasetown.

A 20 year old male, also from the Burntwood area, was arrested at the scene.

The female was treated by paramedics at the scene and then taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham where she remains in a very serious condition.

The area has been cordoned off while police investigate the scene and the road was closed.

The man arrested is still in custody and police are appealing for witnesses.
