Cervical cancer campaign

A 22 year old woman from Trowbridge who has cervical cancer, is fighting to lower the age at which women are routinely tested.

Chantelle Jenkins believes she went undiagnosed for up to 2 years. She is now undergoing a gruelling course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. She was only diagnosed after a smear test. The tests aren't carried out routinely on women untill they are 25. She's set up a facebook site and petition calling for younger women to be offered the tests, as she thinks it woulds save lives. She told Heart ' I feel like 19 - 25 year olds are the forgotten generation. We didn't get the HPV vaccine which prevents the virus that can cause cervical cancer and we don't get smear tests either. We need more education and we need smear tests for women under 25. It would save lives.'
