Plans for new Wiltshire College

Exciting proposals are set to be presented for the redevelopment of Wiltshire College's Chippenham Campus at a public exhibition on Wednesday, November 20.

The plans represent an opportunity to transform the current building and provide an outstanding learning and training facility for the College.

Wiltshire College announced last month its proposals to build a £21m state-of-the-art building on land behind the existing college buildings off Cocklebury Road, Chippenham.

The project is aligned with the Local Economic Partnership initiatives and Chippenham Vision Master Plan.

A 9,100m2 three storey building will provide a completely new purpose built modern campus for the college and town of Chippenham.

The new facilities will support growth in vocational training and apprenticeships in areas such as engineering, construction and hair and beauty as well as university level courses and army resettlement. The new campus is being designed to be flexible to meet the future anticipated demands of students, employers and the community and will provide industry standard workshops and vocationally-tailored spaces, together with realistic working environments.

Interested neighbours, residents and members of the public are invited to attend the exhibition and to discuss the proposals with the College's representatives. There will also be an opportunity to provide comments and feedback.

Wiltshire College Vice Principal Andrew Clare said: "This is an exciting and unique opportunity for Wiltshire College to greatly improve its teaching facilities in Chippenham, for the benefit of the town as a whole.

"We are keen to strengthen our links with the town and see the redevelopment of our currently outdated campus at Cocklebury Road as a key driver to achieving this goal.

"We look forward to meeting interested members of the public and discussing our ambitions at our public consultation event."

For those who can't make this event, the plans will remain on show for two weeks, before a formal planning application is submitted.

The public exhibition will take place in the Cove Theatre at the College's Chippenham Campus on November 20 from 2pm until 8pm. If planning permission gets the go ahead the new world class facilities will open to students from September 2015.
