Swindon Police are trying to gather information after a man, armed with a knife, robbed a newsagents shop in Covingham Square earlier this morning (Tuesday 11th May).

Police say the man entered the Martin McColl store around 7:30am and after picking up an item he approached the counter to pay. As the female assistant opened the till to give the man his change he allegedly attempted to grab money from the drawer whilst holding a knife in his other hand.  She was able to stop the man from stealing a significant amount of cash and received a minor injury to her hand as a result. It is believed he got away with only a handfull of change.

He is described as white, aged in his mid to late thirties and was believed to be wearing a 'Faux' mid brown suede jacket/coat with button fastenings, a grey beanie type hat and jeans.

We do not condone the criminal use of any weapon and will take all necessary steps to deal with those responsible for crimes like this in a robust and proportionate manner.'
