Repossession advice

Swindon's Citizens Advice Bureau has seen a big rise in the number of people coming to them worried about their mortgage and loan repayments. Between April and December last year they saw a 65 per cent increase in enquiries.

Swindon has been identified by the Government as a 'repossession hotspot' due to having higher levels of unemployment and repossession court orders compared to other parts of the UK.

Over the next few weeks the bureau in Faringdon Road will aim to raise awareness of the free face to face and impartial advice available to help families who find themselves in this situation. The aim being to equip them with information on managing and prioritising debt, staying on top of paying their bills and ultimately reducing the risk of losing their homes.

The bureau will be running two special money advice days in the Brunel Shopping Centre on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th March between 10am - 4pm where people can come and talk to our specialist advisers.

Housing Minister John Healey says the scheme aims to help anybody who feels they are struggling.
