Wiltshire talent to star at Olympic torch event

Wiltshire Council say they are on the lookout for local talent for the 2012 event 'Shine for Wiltshire.'

Wiltshire performers are being urged to audition on-line for a chance to appear alongside a national headline act at the Wiltshire 2012 Festival of Celebration to celebrate the Olympic torch passing through the county on July 11, 2012.

The concert, which is expected to attract thousands, will be held in Hudsons Field in Salisbury.

Wiltshire Council is using Facebook and You Tube as platforms for performers to showcase their talents to find the Wiltshire act that will appear on the main stage at the event.

The event, which is being organised by the council, will include showcasing local talent throughout the day and evening, culminating in one act selected to support a national headline act, which will be announced by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) next month.

The deadline for entries is February 26, 2012. From February 29, people will be able to vote for the act they want to see perform at the festival.

The competition ‘Shine 4 Wiltshire’ is open to individuals and groups of any age who live in Wiltshire. In order to enter the contest, entrants must email the council with a link to a You Tube video displaying their talent. This can include bands, orchestra, singers, choirs, theatre performers or dance/acrobatic groups.

The performance must be suitable for a family audience.

Following the February 26 deadline, entries will be placed on the council's 2012 Celebration Facebook page for people to view and vote for their favourite. The number one act with the most votes will perform alongside a national headline act to be announced on February 14.

Leader of Wiltshire Council, Jane Scott, said: "There will be lots of opportunities during the 2012 celebrations to showcase the talent we have in Wiltshire. The torch coming to the county and the event in Salisbury will be highlights this year and we want to give local people the opportunity to be part of this. "

'We urge acts of all ages to get in touch for this once in a lifetime opportunity to perform in front of a massive audience. All are welcome to enter no matter what their talent or act as long as it is suitable for family viewing.'

Hopefuls can audition online now by emailing 2012celebrations@wiltshire.gov.uk with a link to their You Tube video.
