The week I drove a double-decker bus
9th March 2012
I still can't believe it. I drove a bus. An actual bus. With stairs and big wheels and everything. It was all to raise money for our Have a Heart Appeal , supporting ChildLine.
Those lovely people from Stagecoach offered to do a job swap which involved their boss, Ian Manning, coming into Heart Towers to read a travel bulletin. And, somehow, I found myself signed up to drive a double-decker bus around Castle Combe racetrack.
The thing is, I'm not a very confident driver. OK, scrap that - I'm utterly rubbish. So the thought of driving something four times bigger than the little green car I'm used to was terrifying. It was all too much responsibility for a woman who doesn't even like parking in the supermarket carpark.
But I did it.
All those messages of support I had spurred me on to stop being such a wimp. You can see the pictures as proof that it really happened here .
Can you tell I was a little bit scared?!
It's funny really, after one lap I quite enjoyed it. In fact, I loved it. I want to do it all over again! It also turns out I smashed the record for fastest bus driven round the Castle Comb racetrack. I got up to a very speedy 35 miles an hour. Keanu Reeves eat your heart out!
It's not too late to show your support and help us raise money for ChildLine.
To donate, text the word BUS to 70766 (texts cost £1 plus your standard network rate). £1 from each text will be donated to the Have a Heart Appeal in aid of ChildLine.
