Would you friend your mum on Facebook?

13th March 2013: Facebook throws up all sorts of issues.

  • Should you take a pic of that delicious meal you've just cooked and post it on Facebook?
  • Should you boast about your kid's latest potty training achievement?
  • Should you accept that friend request from the ex you dated 10 years ago?
It's a minefield.
But when it comes to one particular dilemma though, our producer Carl is really unsure. His mum joined Facebook this week and added him as a friend. She's new to this social media business and hasn't even given herself a profile picture yet.
Personally, I think it's lovely that Carl's mum wants to find new ways to connect with her boy. As a mum, I hope that when my toddler's all grown up she'll happily add me as a Facebook friend (or whatever site the young ones will be using in the future).

But Carl's not so sure. He's worried his mum will check up on him and he'll get into trouble. He's worried she won't get the hang of Facebook and will suddenly start commenting on EVERYTHING he's ever put online and he'll get a gazillion notifications. And he's worried she'll embarrass him by posting stuff about being a proud mum and making all his friends laugh.

Poor Carl's Mum.

Adam agrees with Carl. In his words, it's a "slippery slope".

What do you think though? Would you friend your mum on Facebook?

And while you're in the contemplative mood, check out this video those two pesky boys made of them winding me up. Thanks Adam and Carl. Love you. Not.
