17 year old girl found dead on beach
The body of a 17 year old girl from Birkenhead has been found dead on a beach.
Police were called to an area known locally as 'Perch Rock', near New Brighton promenade, at 7am on Monday morning by a dog walker.
Merseyside Police can confirm that the 17-year-old girl has been named as Hayley Holmes from the Birkenhead area.
Detectives continue to treat the death as 'unexplained' and an investigation remains on-going.
A post-mortem revealed that she drowned.
