10 fire crews at Flintshire waste plant

People living part of Flintshire have been told to keep doors and windows closed after a fire at a recycling plant in Buckley.

Ten fire engines were called to Spencer Industrial Estate at 22.55 on Sunday evening.

Huge plumes of smoke were seen hanging over the A55 dual carriageway as the fire continued through the early hours of Monday morning.

A spokesperson for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said:

"Four fire appliances, the environmental protection unit, the high volume pump and the ariel ladder platform and are still in attendance this morning.

"We are asking people in the St David's Park area and Brentwood Road area to close windows and doors."

The road is closed at both ends of the industrial estate.

Environmental teams and a foam unit are among the specialist crews dealing with the fire and looking over the damage.

Crews protected nearby properties from the fire and they think it may carry on burning into Monday night, although the fire is now under control.
