Local athlete's high hopes for London 2012

With the London 2012 games nearing by the day, time is running out for hopeful athletes to prove they have what it takes to be a part of the team. As Heart is the Official Radio Partner for Team 2012, we have been chatting to local athlete, 22 year old Natalie Povey, who is certainly feeling the pressure to make the cut.

Paralympian, Natalie is hoping to gain a place in the dressage competition. She is currently undergoing a lot of training, she tells Heart: 'I train six times a week, I train with my home coach up to three times a week,  attend squad sessions and I'm a member of the world class development programme for Para Equestrian dressage, which is lottery funded.'

Natalie tells us that without the help of Lottery funding, she would not be at the level she is at now. In order to gain a place at the games, she tells us how she has to achieve consistent scores of at least seventy percent. Which is 'doable', we are told by the Wrexham-based athlete.

Athlete's hopes to gain a place in the Games in London are more significant than previous games, due to the dream of winning a medal on home soil. Selection is in July, we are told.

Heart will keep you up to date with the progress of Natalie and other local hopefuls.
