Mum inspires for Race for Life

A courageous woman who battled cancer will launch this years Race for life.

Caireen Candlin will be guest of honour at Cancer Research UK;s Race for Life event which will be held at Chester Racecourse on Sunday June 24.

Cancer Research UK's Race for Life is an amazing women-only series of events, which raises millions of pounds every year for life-saving research into 200 types of cancer.

Race for Life is non-competitive.  Women can choose whether to walk, jog or run the 5k route.  Most are able to walk 5k in an hour and all women are welcome, regardless of whether they are taking part on their own or as part of a group.

Caireen will be celebrating five years in the clear in July from cervical cancer. The 40-year-old, who lives in Blacon in Chester, was diagnosed with cancer six years ago.

She said:

'I was really shocked to be diagnosed with cancer, but received excellent health care in Spain. It's unbelievable that only two weeks after an appointment to explain that I might not ever get pregnant again, I fell pregnant with twins.

'Losing the twin was devastating at 12 weeks, but Daisy is an absolute miracle. And now my poor mum is fighting cancer and has been really poorly. I couldn?t have stronger reasons to support Cancer Research UK.

'Thanks to research, I am still here. Success stories like mine would not be possible without the work of Cancer Research UK, which in turn relies on everyone who raises money through Race for Life.'

Race for Life will be held at Chester Racecourse on Sunday June 24, Liverpool 8th July, Rhyl 10th June, Southport 13th May, Wirral 15th July, Wrehxam 17th June.
