Police offer World Cup violence support

Victims of domestic violence are being urged to seek help by Cheshire Police in the run up to the World Cup.

Statistics show there tends to be an increase in incidents of domestic abuse during big sporting events.

Cheshire police are sending out leaflets to thousands of homes to raise awareness across the County.

Assistant Chief Constable Phil Thompson said:

"What must it be like to wake up every morning and think 'another day at the hands of an abuser?'

"What must it be like to be an abuser and go through that period of recrimination and think 'I wish I hadn't done it' but then after a couple of drinks you go ahead and do it again.

"Both those sets of people need help."
