University offers cooking lessons

As children get ready to leave home to go to university, new research shows the majority of them don't even know how to boil an egg.

Now the University of Chester has set up a course to help students cook for the first time on their own.

It will run for the first couple of weeks of the new term to help young people to settle in to their new lives.

Doctor Basma Ellahi is a Nutritionist for the University and hopes the course helps students to be independent.

She said:

"We'll look at shopping on a budget, food labels and quick an easy recipes.

"The most important thing is that food has to be appetising and tasty.

"Meals don't have to be boring and we want them to eat more healthily rather than rely on fast foods."
