We're days away from one of the biggest sporting events in the world arriving in Yorkshire – the Tour de France 2014.

On Saturday July 5 the Yorkshire Grand Depart will begin in Leeds before stage two of the iconic bike race comes to Calderdale and Huddersfield on Sunday July 6.

Facts and figures - 

The Grand Depart – it’s the opening of the race of the Tour de France and is regularly held outside France, this year in Yorkshire.

2 million - The number of spectators expected to line the route of the 2014 Tour de France in Yorkshire, where the world's greatest cycle race begins.

3,500km – the length of the entire race

3 weeks – the length of the race, It starts at the end of June/beginning of July.

3.5 billion – The worldwide television audience watching the Tour de France.

188 – the number of countries across the world that broadcast the Tour de France.

1,200 – the number of hotel rooms reserved each night for the teams, staff, press and tour personnel

12 million - The Tour de France attracts 12 million spectators along the route in a typical year’s race

The Race Caravan – that’s the procession of elaborate floats and vehicles that go around before the racing action. The 180 vehicles give out goodies.

60,000 – The number of packets of sweets on the Race Caravan, they come from HARIBO UK, based in Pontefract.

5 million – the number of tea bags from Taylors of Harrogate for the Race Caravan.
