At about 1.25pm yesterday (14/2) a member of public called police to say they had seen someone dressed in dark clothing and a cap go into the water at the weir close to Crown Point Bridge. They were not seen to resurface.

Detective Inspector Phil Jackson, of Leeds District CID, said: "The police and other emergency service colleagues conducted an extensive search of the area yesterday, with support from the police helicopter, but did not find anyone.

"We have returned to the scene in daylight hours today to conduct further searches, with the assistance of the specialist underwater search team.

"We would like to hear from anyone who saw anything around the time of the initial incident or who has any information that could assist."

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers on 101 quoting log number 741 of February 14.
