Cruise Ship Cancels Devon Visit

Bad weather has prevented the arrival in Ilfracombe of the MV Rotterdam, the cruise ship which planned to bring hundreds of visitors to the seaside town and the rest of North Devon today.

It's estimated the town and surrounding area will lose more than one hundred thousand pounds in business as each passenger is expected to spend around £80 each when their ashore.

The decision, taken by the captain of the vessel due to abnormally rough sea conditions, has disappointed many who were looking forward to seeing the largest cruise ship to have come to the area, but organisers say the show will go on.

As well as all the usual attractions that Ilfracombe has to offer including harbour, theatre, museum, cinema, aquarium and huge variety of restaurants, there will also be a stream of entertainers performing on the pier, seafront and bandstand, along with traditional clog dancers and bands throughout the day.

Stalls will showcase local produce and crafts and there will be children's entertainment.
