Snow Hits Recycling in North Somerset

Due to the disruption caused to waste and recycling services by this week’s severe weather, North Somerset Council is organising additional waste collection points for residents who wish to get rid of their waste over the Christmas period.

On Thursday 23, Friday 24, Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December the following locations will be available between 10am and 3.30pm for North Somerset residents who wish to take their waste, and food waste along for disposal or recycling:

• Clevedon – The Barn (opposite Morrisons) at the recycling banks
• Nailsea – Clevedon Road car park at the recycling banks
• Portishead - New library site by Waitrose Garage near the Waitrose recycling banks
• Weston-super-Mare - Melrose car park, Knightstone Road at the recycling banks.

Residents should drop their waste sacks and food waste off at these points where waste collection workers and vehicles will be available.  The council is asking residents not to leave waste at these sites outside of these times as this will be treated as fly tipping, which may lead to prosecution.

The three household waste and recycling centres will also be available as normal for anyone who wishes to take their refuse and recyclable waste along. These are at Coles Quarry in Backwell, Black Rock Portishead and Aisecombe Way in Weston-super-Mare and all are open from 8am to 4.30pm until the weekend.

There are also recycling banks around the district. Residents can find their nearest one here.

Collection crews will continue their efforts to catch up on missed waste collections this week. Residents are advised to leave their wheeled bins or sacks out for collection, but to take their recycling boxes and food waste caddies back in until their next scheduled collection day.

Waste and recycling collections will also go ahead on all three Christmas and New Year bank holidays.
