An 18 year old woman’s been sexually assaulted in Bedford town centre.

She was also punched and threatened by her attacker in Mayes Yard, between Silver Street and St Paul’s Square at around 3 o’clock on Sunday morning (November 14th).

The victim left the scene towards the Corn Exchange where she met with three friends and was able to raise the alarm. It is believed the attacker left in the Silver Street direction.

Police forensic teams have been searching the area.

The offender has been described as an Asian man in his 20s/30s.

The victim is now receiving support from trained victim liaison officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Collin from the Beds and Herts Major Crime Unit said:

“This has been a very frightening experience for the young woman and she has been left shocked by what has happened to her. This man needs to be found before he strikes again.

“I know there were other people in the Mayers Yard area ands in Silver Street and St Pauls Square who may have seen the victim and her attacker. I would urge anyone in the town centre early on Sunday morning to come forward and call the police, even if they think the information they have is not important, it may be vital to this investigation.”
