Thousands Dive In

Free swimming programme for the over-60s and under-16s is proving to be a real splash in the Wokingham Borough as more than 4,000 people having signed up to take full advantage of a free dip in the public pools.

Cllr Liz Siggery, WBC's executive member for corporate services, said:  "Swimming is the most popular sporting activity in the country and we are really pleased with the number of eligible residents who have joined the free swimming programme in the Wokingham Borough. It's great to see so many people wanting to get fit and active in our swimming pools. If you are eligible and interested in joining the programme, it is not too late, fill in a form today!

"And, for those eligible residents who cannot swim or don't feel confident in the water, why not join one of the free swimming lessons taking place thanks to funding from the Amateur Swimming Association.  The sessions are a great confidence booster for non-swimmers."

Cllr Beth Rowland, leader of Woodley Town Council, said:  "I am delighted that at last Wokingham Borough residents will be able to enjoy what other residents have had for some time. I am sure it will be well used."
