Cambridge: Homeless Man Badly Beaten

A homeless man suffered serious facial injuries after being attacked while he slept in a Cambridge doorway.

According to Cambridgeshire Police, Ian Matthews, 38, was in Sussex Street at 2.10am on Saturday (September 29) when he was attacked by three men. 

He was kicked in the face and stamped on by the attackers and suffered a fractured jaw. 

He was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital for treatment. Police have today released images of his injuries in the hope it will encourage witnesses to come forward with information. 

The main offender is described as white, 5'6'' in his mid 20s and muscular. 

He was wearing a blue t-shirt. 

Detective Constable Anna Bye, investigating told Heart: "This was a completely unprovoked violent attack on a homeless man who was asleep and unable to defend himself. I would urge anyone who has any information about this sickening and cowardly assault to contact police."
