18 October 2012, 16:34

Police have this afternoon named the man in his 70s who's car was in a collision with a van along the southbound A11 near Four Wentways.

Cambridgeshire Police say they had reports a car was travelling the wrong way along the A11 southbound carriageway at just before 6am today (Oct 18).

It involved two vehicles, a Vauxhall Meriva and a Mercedes Sprinter van and happened just before the A1301 turning. The driver of the Meriva, 77 year-old Alfred Hart, from Langwith Gardens in Holbeach, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital but later died.

The driver of the van suffered a serious but not life threatening injury.

Police are investigating the collision and are appealing for anyone who saw what happened or either of the vehicles involved just prior to the crash.

Anyone with information should contact Sergeant Liz Groom on 101.

The road was closed at Babraham for around 8 hours earlier.
