Lorry Fire On A14

A lorry fire caused disruption on the A14 near Newmarket this morning.

The road was closed in both directions between Exning and Quy after a lorry carrying car parts and car batteries caught fire.

There were a number of explosions following the outbreak of the fire at 4:15am.

Around 25 firefighters were needed at the scene.

Anyone living near in the Newmarket area was advised to keep doors and windows closed due to smoke coming from the fire.

Nobody was hurt and the cause of the fire has been confirmed as accidental.

The east-bound carriageway re-opened at 8:20am.
