More Speed Cameras For A14

Work is starting today to install more average speed cameras along the A14 in Cambridgeshire.

The cameras are being put up between junction 31 for Girton and junction 34 for Fen Ditton.

They're expected to be working by the end of March 2011.

Identical cameras have been working on a different section of the A14, between Girton and Huntingdon, since 2007.

Paul Sinfield, from the Highways Agency, said: "The accident rate on the A14 between Girton and Fen Ditton is considerably higher than the national average.

In sharp contrast the 13 mile section of the A14 between Huntingdon and Cambridge has seen significant reductions in the number of accidents and casualties since the average speed camera scheme was introduced."

No-one has been killed on the A14 between Huntingdon and Cambridge since the cameras were installed on that stretch of the road.
