A man is in a critical condition in hospital after he was found on fire outside a homeless hostel in Peterborough.

Cambridgeshire Police said the circumstances "are not fully known at this time", but that officers do not believe anyone else was involved.

It is not yet clear how the man, in his 20s and from Norfolk, came to be on fire, the force added.

Officers were called to reports of a man on fire outside the YMCA in Wellington Street, Eastgate, at 8.20am this morning (Thursday 8th November).

The individual had suffered severe injuries and was initially taken to Peterborough City Hospital by ambulance, but was later airlifted to a specialist burns unit in Chelmsford "in a critical condition."
