Residents Evacuated In Spalding

Residents in Spalding have been evacuated after a suspicious object was discovered.
At about 5:30pm on Wednesday 23rd July police were called to a suspicious incident in South Parade, Spalding.
The address was an unoccupied property that may have been recently used as a squat. As a result of their enquiries officers discovered what was believed to be an explosive device.
As a safety precaution nearby residents were evacuated. The suspicious object was examined by military ordnance experts and eventually found to be safe.
Community Policing Inspector Jim Tyner said: "It was necessary to evacuate nearby residents while enquiries were carried out and the should be completely lifted by 7am. I would like to thank residents for their patience during this police operation."
Police enquiries regarding the initial incident are continuing.
