There's still a little time left to join a unique 5K run next month in Peterborough - for the charity 'When You Wish Upon a Star'.

The charity helps children who have life-threatening illnesses.

The Sunrise City run on the 7th of June - is so called - as it'll start at 530am!

It starts in Cathedral Square and tours down to the River Nene and is being promoted in association with Heart's sister station, Smooth.

There's still time for people to sign up for a unique five kilometre run through the centre of Peterborough in aid of a worthy cause.

More than 200 people have pledged to take part in the Sunrise City 5K which will see participants run or walk through the city from 5.30am on Friday June 7.

The race is being organised by Perfect Motion and supported by Peterborough City Council.

Councillor Steve Allen, Peterborough City Council's cabinet member for recreation, said:

"This is the second time that a Sunrise 5K has been held in Peterborough and following the success of last year's event, this promises to be another fantastic occasion.

We're delighted that so many people have already signed up, the figure is already 25 per cent up on last year. We would also like to remind anyone who still wants to get involved that you can enter on the day."

Starting in Cathedral Square, the race route takes participants down Bridge Street on to the footpaths next to the River Nene, on to the Embankment and Cathedral grounds before finishing back in Cathedral Square.

The official charity for the event is 'When You Wish Upon a Star' which helps children who have life-threatening illnesses.

Participants can enter on the day of the race at the Registration point in Cathedral Square.  It's £20 cash only on the day.

Meanwhile, runners gearing up for the 5K can take part in a series of free lunchtime running sessions in Peterborough's city centre.

The hour long sessions leave the Embankment Athletics Track, in Bishop's Road, every Wednesday from 12noon to 1pm and are overseen by a fully qualified England Athletics Endurance Coach.
