Six Screen Cinema for Clacton?

Plans to create a six-screen multiplex cinema at Clacton Factory Outlet have been submitted to Tendring District Council.

ROM Capital Group, which owns the outlet centre has submitted the proposals and should find out if its been successful within the next four months.

The application also includes restaurants being built on site.

The centre has already undergone nearly £4m pounds worth of improvements in the past two years with three quarters of the units let out to businesses.

If the complex gets the go ahead work is likely to start later this year with the complex open in September 2011.

Commenting, Daren Burney, CEO of ROM Capital Group, said:

“We’ve invested significant time, money and effort at the Centre and are beginning to see the results of this work coming through. Footfall has increased by 31 per cent already in 2010, with like for like sales up by an impressive 58 per cent. The addition of a multiplex cinema and restaurants to the Centre will add a new dimension and is set to transform it into an all-inclusive retail and leisure venue.

“The digital format cinema we intend to use will also be very versatile, allowing live events to be screened as well everything from local school and business training DVDs to a private screening of a prized wedding day DVD.

“We see this as a flagship application for the Town and surrounding areas, and one that will hopefully be well supported by the Community so that we can provide another quality development to complement our existing shopping Outlet."
